Katolicy, protestanci, mennonici: Pień i jego mieszkańcy w badaniach archeologicznych
Na cmentarzysku w Pniu leżącym w ziemi chełmińskiej odsłonięto pozostałości nowożytnej nekropoli (XVII-XVIII/XIX w.), na której stwierdzono groby o niejednoznacznej przynależności do określonej grupy wyznaniowej. Podjęto więc próbę określenia charakteru tego cmentarza, przy wykorzystaniu znanych autorowi źródeł, przede wszystkim archeologicznych oraz rangi dokonanych odkryć. Niektóre elementy obrządku pogrzebowego zaobserwowane na cmentarzysku w Pniu, a szczególnie brak dewocjonaliów, wskazywałyby że chowano tam protestantów (ewangelików), w tym być może mennonitów. Niewykluczone są również pochówki ludności katolickiej. Uzyskane do tej pory wyniki prac badawczych są ważnym uzupełnieniem obrazu nowożytnego obrządku pogrzebowego w strefie wiejskiej ziem Polski i znaczącym wkładem w rozwój tzw. archeologii protestantyzmu.

The Catholics, the Protestants, the Mennonites: The Population of Pień and Its Surroundings in the Modern Era through the Lens of Archaeological Research
At the cemetery in Pień, located in the land of Chełmno, the remnants of a modern necropolis (17th-18th/19th centuries) were discovered, with graves which were not conclusively ascribable to any particular religious group. This paper attempts to determine the character of this cemetery, using the (mainly archaeological) sources available to the author, and to assess the relevance of the discovery. Some elements of the funeral rite identified at the cemetery in Pień, especially the lack of any devotional items, indicate that Protestants (Evangelicals), therein possibly Mennonites, were buried there, but that the burials were Catholic is also a viable hypothesis. The new research findings relevantly add to our knowledge of the modern funeral rite in the rural areas of Poland and significantly contribute to the development of what is known as the archaeology of Protestantism.
