Abstrakt
Artykuł stanowi próbę spojrzenia na toczone w obiegu artystycznym oraz szerzej – kulturze wizualnej – spory o polskość po 1989 r. z perspektywy kategorii wzniosłości, ściśle powiązanej z paradygmatem romantycznym. Przegląd powstałych w ciągu trzech ostatnich dekad artystycznych wypowiedzi na temat polskości i polskiej historii skłania, by uznać je za mieszczące się – wprost lub krytycznie – w paradygmacie romantycznym. „Pośmiertne życie romantyzmu” w tej sferze sztuki zdaje się toczyć w najlepsze. Autor wychodzi przy tym z założenia, że figury wzniosłości pojawiają się zarówno po stronie tych, którzy celebrują trwanie tradycji romantycznej, jak i tych, którzy są wobec niej krytyczni. W wielu wypadkach sprawowanie straży przy ołtarzu polskiej tradycji romantycznej pociąga za sobą niejako w pakiecie celebrowanie wzniosłości, a z drugiej strony zmagania z formą polską siłą rzeczy muszą być zarazem zmaganiem ze wzniosłością.

Paradigm’s Posthumous Children? Romantic Polishness on the frontline between sublimation and „sublirony”.
Abstract
This article is an attempt to look at the disputes about Polishness after 1989 in art and, more broadly, in visual culture, from the perspective of the category of the sublime, closely related to the Romantic paradigm. A review of artistic expressions about Polishness and Polish history created over the last three decades leads us to consider them as falling – directly or critically – into the romantic paradigm. The „posthumous life of romanticism” in this sphere of art seems to be in full swing. The author assumes that figures of the sublime appear both on the side of those who celebrate the continuation of the Romantic tradition and those who are critical of it. In many cases, guarding the altar of the Polish romantic tradition involves automatically the celebration of the sublime, and on the other hand, the struggle with the Polish form must necessarily also be a struggle with the sublime.
