Main Phases of Latin-American Nation-Building Processes
The particular developmental phases of Latin-American nation-building processes do not only reflect a chronological order, but they also signify different phases of integration and the strengthening of civic and cultural bonds, including the religious, lingual, territorial and collective identity. Amongst the processes of development of Latin-American civilian societies three phases may be differentiated: (1) ethnocentrism, iberoconformism, domination of iberic cultural patterns, assimilationism; (2) nationalism, cultural homogenization, ideology and policy of nation-building; (3) muticulturalism, pluralism, “open” civilian societies; (4) Globalization, universalism, latin-americanization.
