The Viking’s Conquest of the World: Scandinavian Emigration as an Example of Globalization Phenomenon
During their most active period of exploration, the Vikings reached remote regions, not only in Europe but also beyond it. Artefacts, material and non-material legacy of the Scandinavian culture, customs, rituals, technical solutions, social organization, all had an impact on the native communities of the raided land. “Conquering the world” — the way the Vikings did it — exemplifies a phenomenon imprinted in a complex, multilayered process of globalization, a process dating back to distant history.
