The knowledge of Non-European fauna contained in Polish natural Scientific literature underwent changes between the end of late 17th and the second half of the 18th century. The information of fauna contained in the widely read work by J.K. Haur, published at the end of the 17th century are often unverified, ‘sensational’ and fairy-like. The zoology reader published in the eighties of the 18th century contains the knowledge based largely on empirical experience, devoid of the supernatural and mythical elements. What were the reasons for this change in approaching fauna?
