A Look At the Relics of Ancient Afghanistan in the Light of the Concept of Globalization of Janet Abu-Lughod

This paper presents an analysis of selected archeological relics spread in the terrain of present Afghanistan. Their origin and proliferation suggest that the globalization process reaches far beyond the modern times and is not only to be associated with Europe’s hegemony. According to Abu-Lughod’s theory, the sea and inland merchant routes constituted an area of cultural communication and the relics originating from the Afghanistan region situated at the crossroads of Silk Routes are an excellent example of the syncretism of ancient cultures. Comparing the past with the future alters merely the rapidity of global interactions.
