The Metaphor of the Cultural Melting Pot
In this paper, I ponder the meanings of the cultural melting pot metaphor. I compare cultural processes to metallurgical ones, juxtaposing cultural phenomena and metal alloys. I conclude that the metaphor of the melting pot does not account for the diversity and uniqueness of cultural phenomena. I believe that it may be more germane to compare cultural processes to the processes of mineral, rock and stone formation. Like cultural phenomena and people, stones have their histories. Stones, people and cultural phenomena are records of these histories. And these histories explain the properties, specificity and diversity of these phenomena, people and stones.

Zastanawiam się, co oznacza metafora kulturowego tygla. Procesy kulturowe porównuję z metalurgicznymi. Zjawiska kulturowe zestawiam ze stopami metali. Dochodzę do wniosku, że metafora tygla nie wyjaśnia różnorodności i niepowtarzalności zjawisk kulturowych. Myślę, że być może lepsze jest porównanie procesów kulturowych z procesami powstawania minerałów, skał i kamieni. Kamienie, jak zjawiska kulturowe i ludzie, mają swoje historie. Kamienie, ludzie i zjawiska kulturowe są zapisem tych historii. A historie te wyjaśniają właściwości, specyfikę i różnorodność tych zjawisk, ludzi i kamieni.
