Djibouti: A Chinese “Stop” on the New Silk Road

Djibouti is a former French colony. Independence did not make a major difference in the country’s status quo, which began to change only with the implementation of China’s New Silk Road project. Chinese investments in the economic infrastructure have made Djibouti a modern country and triggered far-ranging socio-cultural transformations. The reason is that, crucially, China’s actions have both an economic facet and a cultural one to them.
