The Heroism of Being Ismene
Ismene, the forgotten and rejected sister of Antigone, symbolizes every outcast. She was separated from her family, marginalized from her society and even abandoned by Sophocles in the middle of his tragedy Antigone. The conference WYKLUCZENI/OUTCASTS, organized in 2016 by the Brave Festival and Institute of Cultural Studies at the University of Wrocław, paid respect and brought testimonies to heroic “Ismenes” in Europe, Africa and Asia.
