West-East
The present article discusses the boundary between the West and the East; it is an endeavour to trace different conceptions of this division along with its accompanying tensions originating from mythology, politics and economy. The detailed analysis of this issue in its European context leads to a more general, global consideration of the shape and nature of grand boundaries dividing the world into opposing areas of influence, as well as areas which remain peripheral.
