Dance as a Source of Global Culture in Ancient Times

This paper discusses “the performative turn” in classical studies. It presents new research in archaic dance and argues that performance was central to the birth and practice of literature and theatre in ancient Greece, India, Etruria and Rome. The paper examines the evidence for prehistory and origin of lyrics and drama, demonstrating cross-cultural influences and transcultural merging. It offers also a critical insight into the revolutionary musical analysis of ancient poetry by A.P. David.
