It Used To Be Such a Beautiful, European City…

The essay compares the recollections of the pre-war inhabitants of Wroclaw with the vision of the city described by historians. It analyzes the German, Polish, and European character of the city, as well as its Silesian identity, its provincialism and multiculturalism. Out of this comparison there emerge complex visions and many truths, which makes it impossible to draw simple and unequivocal conclusions.
