Cities of Sustainable Development — Cities in a Global World
The aim of this paper is to analyze the modern conceptions of the city and to evidence that the architecture of sustainable development is a natural response to some negative tendencies of the contemporary world. Looking at the city as a cultural idea, also within non-European conceptions, I show that the philosophy of sustainable development and eco-philosophy – along with the city architecture that seems to accompany them – can reinforce human subjectivity and his responsibility for the surrounding world.
