Nature in the City: Local and Global Geographies in Historical and Present Perspective — Review of Research Proposals
The relation between the city and nature is portrayed here beyond the classical dichotomies nature-culture. As such, it can function as a point of departure for the examination of wider cultural, political, and economical phenomena connected with it. In this approach, nature plays the part of the key actor in social processes. Both in the cities of the South and in highly developed countries, nature is strictly entangled in relations of power and class interests. It also turns out to be a marker of planning, ecology, and the “green consumptionism”.
