Extra-European Influence and the Changes in the Humoral Doctrine
Despite a certain homogeneity and relative stability of opinions, the medical doctrine dominating in Europe between the sixteenth and the seventeenth century was subject to some influences from outside the Continent. The tracing of the changes introduced by physicians to therapy enables one to observe a curious phenomenon of the evolution of the local, dogmatic, European medical thought under the influence of foreign impulses. Drawing on the selected examples, the author points at the main turning-point momentswherein the significance of the external influence was the strongest.
