Film Reconstruction of the Broken World. Alterity in Rolf de Heer’s “Ten Canoes” and Robert F. Flaherty’s “Nanuk of the North”

The author analyses two works representing anthropological experimental cinema. Rolf de Heer’s “Ten Canoes” and Robert F. Flaherty’s “Nanuk of the North”. The films were developed as a result of cooperation of the directors with native inhabitants. He looks at the strategies of constructing of the image of Inuit and Aborigens. He analyses the influence of evolutionary thinking and its relationship with hunting. He discusses the role of humor in both films and also the process of the anthropological reconstruction of the world destroyed by colonization. In conclusion the author points out to paradoxes connected with gaining contol in public space over their own image by native inhabitants of former European colonies.
