„People need not only wings, but also roots” (contemporary Ukrainian journalism on globalization and folklorism)
The article surveys the attitudes professed by Ukrainian intellectuals in relation to globalization processes, with especial attention to the issues of mass culture and music folklorism. The theme of the transformation of national cultural traditions under new conditions forms an important part of the discussed publications, all of which consider the complex relations between globalization, mass culture and national culture. The article brings forth a thesis that artistic production using folk sources fosters local values but, alongside, it uses global models and in this sense can provide a pattern-like reference for the idea of glocalism.
